Life Update + Books I Brought With Me to College

Hello! I hope you’re having a fantastic day so far 🙂

I recently moved into my dorm for my second year of college, so I thought I would do a life update, along with a mini dorm bookshelf tour.

Life Update (School, Blogging, and ATTENDING MY FIRST BOOK LAUNCH!):

Now that school’s started, my life has gotten significantly busier with classes and extracurricular involvements and everything else that goes along with living away from home. Although I’ve pre-written quite a few posts, I just wanted to let you all know it’s possible I might miss a few weeks here and there. I’m going to try my best to keep up because this is something I truly love doing and it’s a great way for me to de-stress, but I just wanted to get this out there in case I do end up missing a couple weeks 🙂

Now that’s out of the way, here’s some stuff I’ve been up to!:

I’m helping teach a course on Young Adult Literature this semester (my university has a student-led courses program), which I’m super excited about (and is probably going to be what keeps me sane amidst everything else)! I’m co-teaching it with two of my best book-loving friends, and can’t wait for our first class :))

Last Friday, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the BOOK LAUNCH of Katy Rose Pool’s debut novel There Will Come A Darkness (click on the title to check out my review!!). It was honestly one of the most exciting nights of my life–it was the first book launch I’ve ever attended, and the fact that Katy is one of my biggest author inspirations, and that There Will Come A Darkness is the best YA book I’ve read in the past two years made it that much more special. I got to talk to Katy and ask her questions about the book, listen to her Q&A with Tara Sim, and get a signed copy of her gorgeous novel. I went with some friends who are/have been involved with YA Lit class I mentioned above, as well as two of my closest friends from college, and experiencing that night with them was simply magical <3.

Other than that, I’ve just been trying to get back into a routine of studying and keeping up with all my classes, as well as other extracurriculars. It’s been so great reconnecting with all my college friends after not seeing them for the last three months, and I’m looking forward to all the adventures this year will bring.

If you have any questions for me, let me down below; I’d be happy to answer them! Now, on to the bookshelf tour—

~Dorm Room Bookshelf Tour~

I took a flight to get to school, so I couldn’t pack a whole lot of books, but I do have quite a few on a mini bookshelf I have in the dorm room I share with my wonderful roommate! I decided to bring books that were either my all-time favorites and comfort-reads, or books that were on the syllabus for the aforementioned YA Lit class.

  1. The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare
  2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  3. Persuasion by Jane Austen
  4. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak
  5. The Legend series by Marie Lu
  6. The Theory of Everything by Stephen Hawking
  7. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
  8. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
  9. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Random Riggs
  10. Wonder by R.J. Palacio

And that’s it! Like I said, it’s not a whole lot, but I also don’t have a whole lot of time to read when I’m at school, so they’re the books I turn to when I need some comfort on a bad day and just NEED to read. Also, it’s not super convenient to have physical copies of the books I’m reading with me at college, so most of my reading usually happens via digital copies or audiobooks.

What are your comfort-reads? Are there certain books you feel like you need with you wherever you go?

As always, thanks so much for reading, and I’ll see you next week!

  2. […] Darkness by Katy Rose Pool. This book absolutely blew me away, and the opportunity of attending the launch party back in September is one of my most memorable moments of 2019 […]
