Original Poem | Pennies and Dimes

Hi! I hope you’re having an amazing day today, because you’re amazing <3 And if you aren’t having a good day, know that the good days are right around the corner!

It’s been a crazy/stressful/overwhelming first semester of my sophomore year of college so far (which is why I’ve been so inconsistent with keeping up with weekly posts), but I’m feeling much more relaxed now that I’ve finished midterms, and wanted to take some time to get back to get back to some of the things I enjoy most. 🙂

On that note: I’ve been writing a lot of poetry throughout the past year, and have finally worked up the courage to share it. This is the second poem I’m sharing here (you can find the first one here, if you want!), and it’s still kind of terrifying because my writing is one of the things I’m most self-conscious about. But I’m doing it anyway!

I can’t remember exactly when this one was written, but I wrote it a couple of months ago and it’s about how scary it can be to be yourself and pursue what you want out of life, and how even though sometimes things don’t always turn out the way you want them to, it’s important to not lose faith in yourself.

Pennies and Dimes

Can’t sleep

Can’t dream

Heart beating

Thoughts racing

Anxiety takes hold

Of me

Why am I so bold

Why am I so stupid

They say go for what you want

But this will always haunt me

Being brave, being unapologetically me

Shouldn’t have done it

Because nothing hurts more

Than when the real you doesn’t fit

Who to appease, who to live by

It’s all so much

I could just sit and cry

But I don’t.

Because I’m me and as much as it hurts sometimes,

those moments are just pennies and dimes
