Original Poem | You Will Always Be

My grandmother passed away earlier this week, and I wrote this poem for her, my mom, and everyone else whose lives she touched. I miss her so much, but I know she will always be with me, and in this week of giving thanks, I am more thankful than ever for my family. I hope I can live my life every day trying to be as strong, independent, and selfless as my grandmother was, always remembering everything she taught me, more than I could ever explain in words.

You Will Always Be

You are at rest

But you aren’t going anywhere;

You are always in our prayers.

In our hearts,

We will never be apart.

Separated by miles

we may have been,

Yet never far;

Not then, not now,

Nothing is coming to an end.

A new beginning,

For you,

And one for us,

Where we remember

Instead of letting anything turn to dust.

As strong as the earth,

Free like the air,

And sticking together like drops

Of water,

Burning as bright as fire.

Every day, we are inspired

By what you taught

And fought for,

And lived by.

We don’t cry,

But again try our best

To live like you did.

You are at rest, but

You will always be

her best friend,

Just like she will always be mine,

From now until the end of time.

You will always be.
